Steve – Mentor

Young people are living in a complicated and challenging world and giving them a non-judgmental and trusted place in which they can share their concerns is more important than ever. I aim to give them that safe space that they may not have elsewhere. I use it to guide them to find their own solutions and to help to develop the confidence they need to make the right choices in life.

I am semi-retired and have spent my career in corporate communications where I have developed good listening skills and the patience and guidance required to bring the best out of my teams. I have just returned to the UK after more than 14 years living in Barcelona.

In my spare time, I enjoy culture, country walks and spending time with family and friends. I am also a voracious traveller and have journeyed through more than 100 countries the hard way including crossing the Tibetan plateau to Lhasa, taking dug out canoes to Timbuktu and living with the Crocodile Tribe in Papua New Guinea. All of these journeys involved building trust quickly. This is a skill that I can use with the young people I mentor at YMM.
